Get involved in the disability rights movement & Disability Network!
There are so many ways YOU can get involved. You can:
- Volunteer your time and talents at Disability Network. We have a variety of ways you can help make a difference.
- Provide financial support to further our mission of educating and empowering people with disabilities to create change in their own lives & advocating for social change to create inclusive communities.
- Sign up to be part of Get Active! - an e-mail based action alert campaign program that will let you know when urgent action on your part is needed to influence public policy.
- Learn about the history of the disability rights movement.
- Assess your own language. Are you using empowering words to describe people with disabilities or are you still using out-dated and offensive words like "handicapped"?
- Speak up when you see discrimination or injustice that impacts people with disabilities, or when you hear "jokes" that make fun of disabling conditions.
- Talk to elected officials about issues important to you that impact persons with disabilities.
- Invite Disability Network staff to speak about disability issues at your club meeting, staff meeting or other event.
- Put information about Disability Network in your lobby or newsletter.
- Link us to your website.
